A U.S.-based captive automotive finance company supporting a major multinational automaker's brands. A full-spectrum captive — it owns the customer relationship from origination through end-of-term, including the vehicle return experience — supporting six major automotive brands with 1,200+ employees across multiple U.S. offices.
As a captive finance company, they own the customer experience end-to-end — including lease-end and trade-in. Branding consistency mattered: the inspection had to feel like part of their app, not a third-party tool. They turned on every Self Inspection capability — visual capture, AI damage detection, repair-cost estimation — and partnered with the Self Inspection integrations team to white-label and embed the workflow directly inside their own front-end application.
Owning the end-of-term experience
Three structural problems made the lease-end and trade-in process the weakest link in an otherwise tightly-owned customer journey. Third-party in-person inspections take 30–45 minutes on-site, scheduled 4–6 weeks before lease end, and volume scales linearly with inspector headcount. A captive owns the customer through origination, servicing, payments and end-of-term — but the inspection step handed the customer to a third party, breaking a deliberately-curated branded experience at the most sensitive moment of the lifecycle. And subjective grading created disputes with lessees; repair-cost estimates produced by the captive itself were questioned by customers and insurers as self-interested.

Every Self Inspection capability — visual capture, AI damage detection, repair-cost estimation — runs inside the customer's own front-end application. Lessees complete a guided photo & video walkaround in minutes — no appointment, no inspector, no scheduling. A computer-vision model trained on 20M+ vehicle images auto-flags parts, damage type, and severity — standardized, auditable, consistent across every return. Self Inspection's insurance-trained evaluators issue an independent repair-cost figure — defensible to lessees, dealers and insurers alike. The Self Inspection integrations team partnered with the customer's engineering team to embed the workflow directly inside the customer's front-end application — under the customer's brand, end-to-end.
